A new series of precision gear & dial hubs from Sterling Instrument (ISO 9001:2000+AS9100B Registered Manufacturer) are designed to fit gears or dials, plus eliminate keys or splines. Identified as the S2F06Y-…. Series, they are made of 303 stainless steel. Hub mounting lengths range from .062” to .187”. Their bore diameters range from .0900” to .2498”. These Fairloc® hubs can be ordered pre-assembled to gears or dials.

The choice of Fairloc® hubs permits frequent phase adjustment, timing and position adjustment while adding positive metal-to-metal fastening strength along both hub sections. The Fairloc® integral hub fastener consists of two slots that are machined into the hub, one radially and the other angularly, to create a transverse wedge which remains attached to the solid portion of the hub on one side. The resultant cantilevered clamping section has a tapped hole to accept a cap screw which passes through a clearance hole in the solid portion of the hub, and into a threaded hole in the transverse wedge section. As the screw is tightened, the cantilevered section clamps the shaft securely. The screw can be tightened and released repeatedly without marring the shaft or affecting its torque-transmitting abilities. New FixLogix Modular T-Slot Fixture System for CMM and Metrology Part Staging Applications

FixLogix LLC has introduced a new T-slot modular fixture system for part staging applications. It is used for metrology and other light work-holding applications. The system features a new fabricated T-slot fixture plate that can be produced at a fraction of the cost of traditional tooling plates. The plate and integrated component kit significantly reduces the cost of acquiring a CMM fixture system, and improves the functionality.

T-slot systems offer infinite positioning of locating components, which simplifies fixture construction. The T-slots are combined with a laser engraved reference system. This provides clear documentation of the fixture setup for easy repeatability. The T-slots are Alpha-identified, with engraved reference scales along the T-slots in English or Metric versions.

Designed initially for CMMs, the system is being utilized in a variety of coordinate metrology applications. Users of portable coordinate inspection systems such as articulating arms have found the fixture system to be very useful, and the economical price point is appropriate for the application. Other customers have use the system for staging for CT scanners, and for staging parts on laser engraving systems.

The FixLogix system is also being implemented for rapid construction of semi-dedicated part-holding fixtures for CMM inspection. Linn Products Inc. an aluminum extrusion and fabrication company located in Charlotte MI has successfully implemented the FixLogix system for rapid part holding fixtures. According to Randy Linn, President of Linn Products: “The FixLogix modular fixture system has allowed us to build our own CMM holding fixtures in days instead of weeks. This has improved the timelines for new product development. We have also enjoyed tremendous cost savings as well. At a cost of hundreds of dollars rather than the thousands we used to spend, we are saving thousands of dollars per fixture.”

Bustec Announces Low-Cost PCI Express VXI Slot-0 Interface

Bustec announced today the ProDAQ 3026, a single-slot, C-size, VXIbus slot-0 to PCI Express interface. With low latency and up to 40 MB/s throughput, the ProDAQ 3026 provides a low-cost solution for replacing legacy VXI interfaces. The new interface enables arbitrary power on/off order of host PC and chassis, is optimized for low first-word latency, and is available with interfaces for PCI- and PCI Express-based computers.

The ProDAQ 3026 supports PCI Express hot-plug functionality, allowing engineers to power up a host PC simultaneously or independently from any and all VXI chassis. Unlike other interfaces that require engineers to power down a host PC before turning off a VXI chassis, the ProDAQ 3026 allows engineers to power off any VXI chassis to interchange instruments without having to shut down the host PC, ultimately saving time.

Up to two ProDAQ 3026 interfaces can be connected directly to the ProDAQ 3261 PCI Express host interface card, which fits into a standard PCI Express x4 slot in a desktop or server computer. For a desktop or server computer with PCI bus slots only, the ProDAQ 3262 provides a PCI-to-PCI Express bridge in addition to the PCI Express cable interface. It fits into a standard PCI slot and also allows up to two ProDAQ 3026 to be connected.
